This “share and support” style meeting included a review of the Climate Solutions 101 Series (with a preview of the upcoming group of 4 EGG350 articles to recap this special presentation), a discussion of our current ‘Code Red’ status and how the Elgin Sustainability Commission and other groups are working to resolve it, and sharing green ideas and new things to help us all go greener. We are all in this together and all have to do as much as we can as soon as we can.
September 2021
To encourage participation in the special EGG350 Climate Solutions 101 Series, no EGG350 Monthly Meeting was held. A 2-part summary of the CS 101 Series is forthcoming.

EGG350 news included a preview of the upcoming special EGG350 Climate Solutions 101 series, a heads up about upcoming rallies, a summary of the recent IPCC report, a demonstration of making sauerkraut and a recipe for kefir.

EGG350 news included dams to be removed, yard tours, act endorsement, waste-free life style, and renewable energy. The special presentation was from Terra Vitae Farms by Kevin Kelley. The presentation included information about regenerative farming practices to improve soil health and vitality, leading to genuine stewardship of animals and biodiversity on the land, an approach which speaks to “beyond organic” and exemplifies sustainability farming practices.

EGG350 news included a recycling conference update and information about renewable energy. The special presentation was from Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance (SUWA) by Clayton Daughenbaugh, SUWA’s Organizing Director and vice-chair of the Sierra Club’s National Wildlands & Wilderness Team, who has been an EGG350 guest previously. Among other items, the presentation included how the spectacular red rock wilderness lands contribute to addressing the challenge of climate change, based on a new gathering of scientific data illustrating an important role for these lands and the protection of wild places in general, and the re-introduced “America’s Red Rock Wilderness Act”, which would protect this fast and wild landscape. Due to the award-winning advocacy film, EGG350 utilized SUWA’s Zoom platform.

EGG350-related news included upcoming programs at Gail Borden Public Library, the Elgin Sustainability Commission taking a recommendation from Elgin Area Climate Action Now, a possible plastic bag ordinance, recycled toilet paper, and a look ahead to the June EGG350 Monthly Meeting. The feature presentation was by Samantha Creadon and Bob Schmitt of The Junkluggers.

EGG350-specific notes included an upcoming “circular economy” webinar, renewable energy for all Kane County Forest Preserves, and looking ahead to the May EGG350 Monthly meeting, as well as a potential return to in-person meetings. The headline presentation was led by Jessica Beverly (Clean Energy Advocate for the Sierra Club Illinois Chapter), who discussed CEJA (Clean Energy Jobs Act).

At the 01/18/2016 meeting, Reverend Terry Gallagher shared his “Oil By Rail” presentation. He detailed the increased volume of oil tankers carrying volatile crude oils and where they pass through our communities. He also shared some cringe-worthy photos (like the one to the right) of failing infrastructure where trains cross the Fox River in Aurora.
